The Government of Tanzania has changed the public holiday to honour the late Tanzanian President, H.E. Dr John Pombe Magufuli, from March 25th to March 26th 2021.
Mourning Period for President Magufuli
After the death of Dr John Pombe Magufuli, the President of Tanzania, the country observing a 14-day mourning period.
John Pombe Joseph Magufuli was a Tanzanian politician who served as the fifth president of Tanzania from 2015 until his death in 2021. Magufuli died on Wednesday March 17th 2021 from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania In her first public address after being sworn in as president, Samia Suluhu Hassan announced 21 days of mourning for Magufuli and public holidays on March 22nd and on March 26th 2021, the day the late president will be buried.
Businesses, schools, and government offices are expected to be closed.

March 21: Public pays respects at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
March 22: Body flown to Dodoma for paying of last respects by public.
March 23: Body to be transferred to Zanzibar for locals to pay their last respects.
March 24: Public to pay last respects in Mwanza before transfer of body to Chato
March 25: Family and public to pay last respect in Chato
March 26: Mass at Catholic Church in Chato followed by burial at his home.
