Sunday April 16th 2023
As heavy clashes continue between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group, the capital of Khartoum declared Sunday April 16th 2023 a public holiday.
The Khartoum State Security Committee said it took the measure "in order to preserve lives of citizens and their property."
The committee has been in permanent session since the fighting broke out Saturday morning, it said in a statement.
The fighting has reportedly spread to several other parts of the city, with gunfire and explosions heard in many areas. Witnesses have reported seeing tanks and armored vehicles on the streets, and there have been reports of casualties on both sides.
