Romania’s Government has announced that Tuesday, April 30th 2019 will be a public holiday for budgetary sector employees. Monday April 29th is a national holiday for Orthodox Easter Monday, and Wednesday May 1st is already a non-working day according to the Labour Code for Labour Day.
This means employees in the public sector will now have a five-day holiday from Saturday April 27th until Wednesday May 1st.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Justice (MMJS), the measure has been adopted to allow employees to recover their work capacity as well as stimulating tourism, News.ro reported.
"The provisions of the normative act do not apply to workplaces in which the activity cannot be interrupted," the ministry said.
Public institutions will recover the extra day off by extending their working hours by May 31st.
