Wednesday, December 11th 2019 has been designated as a public holiday in the Virgin Islands in observance of the State Funeral and burial for the late Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE Member Emeritus.
Acting Governor of the Virgin Islands, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. in accordance with section 5 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 199) and with the advice of the Cabinet, issued a proclamation appointing Wednesday, December 11 to be reserved as a public holiday throughout the Virgin Islands.
Mr. O’Neal died on November 11th, aged 85. The holiday will allow for a national day of mourning and for the public to attend and participate in all aspects of the State Funeral.
Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal was the longest serving elected official in the history of the Virgin Islands and served in House of Assembly and Legislative Council for forty years.
