The Punjab government on Wednesday declared a holiday on Monday October 30th 2023 in Amritsar district on the occasion of the 'Parkash Purab' of Guru Ramdas.
The fourth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism. Given the title of Sikh Guru in August 1574 and was Guru for seven years. As Guru, his main contribution to Sikhism was organizing the structure of Sikh society.
Guru Ram Das was also the founder of Amritsar, the centre of Sikhism and the site of the Sikhs' principal place of worship—the Harmandir Sahib, or Golden Temple.
An official spokesperson said all offices of the state government, boards and corporations, as well as government educational institutions, will remain closed in Amritsar on October 30th.
