When is Nijamati Sewa Diwas?
Nijamati Sewa Diwas is a holiday for civil servants in Nepal. This date of this holiday is announced each year, but usually takes place in early September.
Traditions of Nijamati Sewa Diwas
As in most countries, civil servants play an important in keeping the wheels of government turning smoothly. Unlike most countries, Nepal gives the civil servants their own special holiday. Brazil is the only other country we know of, who have a similar holiday.
Meaning Civil Service Day, Nijamati Sewa Diwas has been celebrated every year since 2013. It marks September 7th 2003, the day the then Prime Minister Tanka Prasad Acharya enacted the Civil Service Act.
The Civil Service was formed in 1956 and today there are about 83,000 civil servants working in Nepal. The day is celebrated under the motto of 'service-friendly administration, good governance in federalism'.
To mark the day, the Ministry of General Administration present Outstanding Civil Service Awards and Civil Service Awards.
