The Koshi province government has decided to declare a public holiday in the province on Friday August 9th 2024.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers earlier today decided to give a holiday throughout the province on the occasion of the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples, Government Spokesperson and Minister of Internal Affairs and Law Lilaballav Adhikari said.
Accordingly, all government offices, local levels, public institutions, foundations and educational institutions in the province will remain closed to celebrate the day.
In December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided that the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples should be observed on August 9th each year. The date was chosen in recognition of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights held in Geneva in 1982.
