September 9th 2019 has been declared as a public holiday in Mauritius by the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Pravind Jugnauth.
"Our country will be blessed this year with the Pope's visit, so September 9th will be declared a holiday, so that we may as a nation welcome His Holiness," said Jugnauth.
In March 2019, Jugnauth had a press briefing along with Cardinal Piat who outlined the purpose of the visit, stating "It is not only a visit of Pope Francis to Catholics but to the Mauritian people, in all their religious diversity."
