A public holiday has been declared in Manipur due to adverse weather conditions.

The Manipur Government has extended the public holiday to Friday July 5th 2024 due to the prevailing situation of floods and incessant rainfall. Floodwaters continue to inundate more than 1000 houses in Singjamei, Kakwa, Keirao, and parts of Canchipur in Imphal West District, and another 500 houses in Kshetrigao, Thambal Khong, Kongpal, and parts of Irong in Imphal East District.

The Manipur govt has extended the public holiday till Thursday July 4th as various parts of Imphal East and West districts continue to remain inundated on Wednesday amid incessant rain. The govt has appealed to the general public to stay indoors.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has declared a public holiday on Wednesday July 3rd 2024 due to heavy rains in the state and severe flooding in several areas.

In a statement, the governor said that all government offices including public sector undertakings, corporations, autonomous bodies, societies under the Manipur government, banks and other financial institutions will remain closed on July 3rd.

Incessant rains over the last few days have caused overflow of the rivers in Manipur, inundating several places in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.

The order is issued in exercise of the powers conferred by the explanation under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (XXVI of 1881), with the approval of the Competent Authority, it mentioned. It also attached a copy of the Public Advisory dated July 1, vide file no 9/2/2024-RDM/NC (FLOOD), issued by the Department of Relief and Disaster Management, Government of Manipur as per the report from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in Manipur for the next five days.
