Heavy rains have led to flooding in parts of Manipur, including Imphal, where two overflowing rivers have inundated several areas. This comes after Cyclone Remal triggered incessant rainfall in the state.
According to news agency ANI, at least three people have died in Manipur due to floods in the state's Imphal valley. The heavy rains prompted the state government to initiate active rescue and relief operations.
An advisory issued by Angom Heera Singh, Deputy Secretary (GAD), on behalf of the Governor of Manipur, stated that the government is actively conducting rescue and relief operations through the district administration and relevant departments.
In light of the ongoing situation, the Governor of Manipur has declared May 30th (Thursday) and May 31st (Friday), 2024, as public holidays for all government offices, including Public Sector Undertakings, Corporations, Autonomous Bodies, and Societies under the Government of Manipur.
