History of the Birthday of the Governor of Sabah
The Malaysian State of Sabah is located on the northern part of the island of Borneo. Sabah is the second largest of Malaysia's thirteen states. Sabah shares the island of Borneo with Sarawak, Brunei, and Indonesia's Kalimantan region. The state's nickname is the "The Land Below the Wind."
Sabah is one of four Malaysian states that don't have a monarch as the head of state. The head of state is the Governor, also known as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri. Under the State Constitution, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri is elected for a period of four years. The Yang di-Pertua Negeri uses his executive power according to the State Constitution and makes decisions based on the advice from the Cabinet or the Chief Minister.
Currently serving a third term as governor, Juhar Mahiruddin was first sworn in on January 1st 2011. Mahiruddin is the 10th Governor of Sabah since the role began in September 1963.
