The government has declared Friday, April 29th 2022, a national holiday in honour of former President Mwai Kibaki.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said the National State Funeral Steering Committee tasked with planning the funeral of the former Head of State resolved that his funeral service will be held on this day at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.
"The State Funeral for the third President shall take place on Friday (April 29, 2022) at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi County with full Military Honours and Protocols," a statement read.
He said Kibaki will lay in state at the National Assembly from Monday to Wednesday.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will lead the nation in publicly viewing the body at 10 am on Monday. All other dignitaries and Government officials are required to have arrived at the National Assembly for the event on or before 9 am," he said.
The signing of the condolence book of the late President will be launched on Tuesday at Harambee House at 9.00 a.m.
"Condolence books will be availed at all regional, county and sub-county government offices for the public," he said.
The former President will be buried on Saturday, April 30, at his Othaya home.
Kibaki died on Friday April 22md 2022 at the age of 90.
