  Summary

A three-day gathering that takes place in Punjab in memory of the younger Sahibzadas.

The Punjab government has declared a public holiday on December 28th 2022 in view of the commemoration of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Shaheed (Shaheedi Jor Mela).

Therefore, government institutions, boards/corporations, banks and commercial establishments will also remain closed on December 28th.

An official statement issued by the state government said all offices of Punjab Government, Boards/Corporations and government educational institutions, will remain closed on December 27th in Fatehgarh Sahib.

The mela marks the martyrdom of the two younger sons of 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh -- Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh -- who were bricked alive by the Mughals on December 26, 1705.

In recent years, Jor Mela Sri Fatehgarh Sahib has been a restricted holiday, which can be chosen as an optional holiday by citizens.

Shaheedi jor Mela is three-day annual religious congregation organised every year in December at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, in the Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, India to pay homage to the martyrdom of Chhotte Sahibzade Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the youngest sons of the 10th Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh.

Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh (aged 9 and 7 years respectively) along with Mata Gujri, mother of Guru Gobind Singh were imprisoned by the governor of Sirhind, Wazir Khan.

He offered them treasure and easy lives if they would only convert to Islam, but they refused and stuck their faith in Sikhism. They were entombed alive by being bricked into a wall on December 26th 1705, but the wall collapsed.

Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, 5 km (3.1 mi) north of the Sirhind marks the site of their live entombment. Their mortal remains were cremated at a nearby place, where Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup is situated.
