Following the death of Qasem Soleimani on Friday January 3rd 2020, a public holiday has been declared in Tehran province on Monday January 6th.
On Monday, Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran is expected to pray over Soleimani's remains at Tehran University, followed by a procession through the city.
Due to the expected crowds, several streets in the city centre are closed to cars. Schools and universities are also closed on Monday, all exams have been cancelled.
The general's remains will then be taken to the holy city of Qom for a ceremony ahead of a funeral in his hometown of Kerman on Tuesday.
