2024 Election
The presidential election (Pemilu) on Wednesday February 14th 2024, is officially designated as a public holiday in Indonesia. Circular No. 1 of 2024 from the Ministry of Manpower outlines the holiday for workers, emphasising that entrepreneurs and business owners are mandated to ensure employees can exercise their voting rights.
February 14th 2024 marks a significant day for Indonesia as it celebrates a democratic event with a presidential and general election across all regions simultaneously. The electorate will cast votes for the president, vice president, and members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia from national to regional.
2019 Election
A national public holiday will be observed on Wednesday 17th April 2019 to allow voters to participate in the Presidential Election in Indonesia.
Though election day is a public holiday, voting is not compulsory. The day is designated as a national holiday to encourage high voter turnout.
It is the world's largest direct presidential election - since the United States uses an electoral college system.
