October 16th 2024 Public Holiday

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, an upper air cyclonic circulation over South East Bay Of Bengal, has formed a low-pressure area off south coastal Andhra Pradesh and lay over South west Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Tamil Nadu coast.

Under its influence, isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu on 16th October. In view of the above, the Government has decided to declare Public Holiday on 16.10.2024 (Wednesday) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, as a special Case. 

December 4th 2023 Public Holiday

The Tamil Nadu government has declared a public holiday for all government offices in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts on Monday December 4th 2023, because of the cyclonic storm Michaung. The public holiday has been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 as a special case.

However, all essential services, such as police, fire service, local bodies, milk supply, water supply, hospitals/medical shops, power supply, transport, fuel outlets, hotels/restaurants, and offices engaged in disaster response, relief and rescue activities shall function as usual.

November 8th 2021 Public Holiday

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) MK Stalin has declared a public holiday in the state for Monday November 8th 2021, following heavy rains and inundation in several parts of the state, including Chennai.

In light of the public holiday, all government offices, barring those categorised as essential services, will remain shut. Private companies have also been urged to either declare a holiday or allow their employees to work from home on Monday.

A two-day rain holiday for all educational institutions declared on Sunday in four Tamil Nadu districts — Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chengalpet, was extended to the districts of Vellore, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Ranipet, Thanjavur,  Tirupatur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur among others.
