Saragarhi Day is a regional state holiday observed in Punjab, India on 12 September.
It was first declared as an offical state holiday in 2017.
History of Saragarhi Day
Honours the 21 military Sikh soldiers who died at the Battle of Saragarhi.
The battle was fought on 12 September 1897 by a platoon of 21 soldiers from the 36th Sikhs (now the 4th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment) against 10,000 Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. The men fought valiantly for six hours and 45 minutes before all 21 fell.
Saragarhi Day is a regional state holiday in Punjab, but is observed by Sikhs worldwide.
In Punjab, All public and Government institutions will remain closed.
