About Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday
Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was born on June 19th 1595. Guru Hargobind became the sixth of the ten Gurus of Sikhism in June 1606, at the age of eleven, after the execution of his father, Guru Arjan, by the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
His main legacy was the creation of the Sikh military force so that the Sikhs could defend themselves against aggressors such as Jahangir.
Under his leadership, the Sikhs fought and won several battles against the Mughal army. These victories strengthened the Sikh community, leading to a degree of autonomy for the Sikhs within the Mughal Empire.
Guru Hargobind had the longest rule as one of the living Gurus, lasting almost 38 years.
