His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Birthday is a national holiday in Brunei Darussalam on July 15th each year.
This holiday Commemorates the birthday of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who was born on this day in 1946.
History of H.M. The Sultan's Birthday
Hassanal Bolkiah was born on July 15th 1946, the eldest son of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III and Raja Isteri (Queen) Pengiran Anak Damit.
As such, he became Crown Prince in 1961 and succeeded to the throne as the Sultan of Brunei, following the abdication of his father on October 5th 1967. His Majesty the Sultan was crowned on 1st August 1968 in pomp and pageantry befitting Brunei's ancient customs and traditions.
He is the 29th Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei in an almost unbroken lineage that dates back to the 14th century. He is also the Prime Minister of Brunei, which makes him one of the few absolute monarchs.

This holiday is celebrated across the country with mass prayers beginning the day. His Majesty the Sultan then delivers a royal address which is followed by an investiture ceremony held at the Istana Nurul Iman. Gatherings at the four districts are then held where His Majesty meets and congregates with his subjects.
