1992 - Wayne McLaren, who portrayed the Marlboro Man in ads for the cigarette brand, dies (b. 1940). |
1844 - The Rev William Spooner was born in London. He was an albino and suffered defective eyesight and it is thought that this caused some of his verbal confusions which were later dubbed 'spoonerisms'. These included 'it is kisstomary to cuss the bride' and 'you hissed my mystery lecture'. |
1796 - Surveyor Moses Cleaveland meet the mouth of the Cuyahoga River at Lake Erie, decides that this area would be a perfect capital city of the Connecticut Western Reserve, and named the new town after himself. |
1469 - Warwick and Clarence agree to return to England and depose Edward IV in favour of Henry VI, in the Second War of the Roses. |
