Prajatantra Diwas is celebrated annually on Falgun 7th in the Nepalese Calendar.
"Prajatantra Diwas" translates to "Democracy Day" in Nepal. It is a significant day in the country's history as it marks the establishment of democracy and the end of the autocratic Rana regime in 1951.
On February 18th 1951, King Tribhuvan announced Nepal's first steps to democracy with a historical proclamation and a cabinet headed by Sir Mohan Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana, and split among the Ranas and the Nepali Congress Party; bidding farewell to the 104-year-long dynastic, autocratic and authoritarian rule of the Rana rulers.
On this day, the people of Nepal commemorate the victory of democracy over autocracy and the establishment of a more representative form of government.
