The government has announced a public holiday on Monday January 16th 2023 to mourn the lives lost in the Yeti Airlines plane crash in Pokhara on Sunday January 15th.

An emergency Cabinet meeting held on Sunday made the decision to this effect, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel said.

A Yeti Airlines plane carrying 68 passengers crashed in Pokhara on Sunday.

The plane with call sign ATR-72 took off from Kathmandu to Pokhara. According to Sudarshan Bartaula, spokesperson of the Yeti Airlines, there were two pilots, two air hostesses and 68 passengers on board the ill-fated aircraft that crashed between the old airport and the Pokhara International Airport this morning.

The government has declared Thursday 28 February 2019 as a national mourning day to pay tribute to those killed in a chopper crash that took place in Pathibhara, Taplejung on Wednesday 27 February.

An emergency meeting of the Cabinet held on Wednesday made the decision to this effect after seven persons including Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari lost their lives in the chopper crash at Sisne of Fungling Municipality-10 this afternoon.

The meeting has also decided to fly the national flag at half-mast in all government offices, educational institutions and Nepali missions abroad.

The government has also decided to perform the last rites of Minister Adhikari with state honours.
