President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared Monday February 6th 2023, a public holiday.
The announcement was made in a directive issued by the President's Office.
President Solih is scheduled to deliver his Presidential Address to the People's Majlis on February 6 to initiate the first session of the parliament in 2023.
According to Article 84 of the Constitution, the President is required to give his annual presidential address at the first meeting of the Parliament each year. In this address, he will inform the Parliament of the Maldives' current situation, including its successes and difficulties, as well as his plans for the future of the nation.
The parliament went into recess on November 28 after completing 54.7% of the tasks.
February 3rd 2022
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared February 3rd 2022 as a Public Holiday.
The President's Office revealed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided that the day Parliament reconvenes for the first session of the year will be a public holiday.
The sitting will be inaugurated by Speaker of Parliament and Former President Mohamed Nasheed after which the presidential address will be delivered.
According to Article 84 of the Maldives constitution, “at the beginning of the first session of each year at the first sitting, the President shall address the People’s Majlis on the state of the country, and may present proposals for improving the state of the country to the People’s Majlis.”

This reverts to the usual practice that has been abandoned under the premiership of Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
