The government of the Indian state of Punjab has announced a public holiday on Thursday April 27th 2023, in honour of the former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who passed away on April 25th.

The Chandigarh administration has also declared a public holiday on this day.

Parkash Singh Badal, a five-time Chief Minister of Punjab, breathed his last at the age of 95. The veteran leader had been suffering from various health issues for some time and was admitted to a hospital in Mohali.

Since the cremation of Badal is to be performed on Thursday, the state government has announced a public holiday for the day.

All government offices, educational institutions, and banks in the state will remain closed as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Parkash Singh Badal served as the Chief Minister of Punjab five times and was also a Union Minister in the late 1970s. Upon his death. there has been an outpouring of condolence messages from politicians cutting across the party lines.
