This significant decision, aimed at facilitating the electoral process, was conveyed through a notification signed by Atiar Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Election Management-2, issued on Sunday December 24th 2023.
The declaration of a public holiday aligns with the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal for the 12th parliamentary election on November 15th.
As per the election timetable, the campaign period commenced on December 18th and is set to continue until 8 am on January 5th, allowing political parties and candidates a designated timeframe for canvassing and public engagement.
The decision to designate January 7th as a general holiday underscores the government's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for citizens to exercise their democratic right to vote.
By providing a day off on the day of polling, authorities aim to ensure that voters have the time and freedom to participate in the electoral process without any undue constraints.
